Leading Manchester Surgeon Marks 20th-Anniversary Milestone

On 1st July 2022, leading Consultant General and Specialist Gastrointestinal and Laparoscopic Surgeon Mr Anselm Agwunobi is marking his 20 years as a Consultant Surgeon.


Mr Agwunobi qualified as a doctor in 1981. He undertook his specialist training in the UK before being appointed as a Consultant Surgeon, specialising in gastrointestinal (GI) and hernia surgery in 2002, initially at Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and currently at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust where he is the Trust Lead for National Emergency Laparotomy Audit. His particular expertise is in the use of minimally invasive surgical techniques, known as laparoscopic or keyhole surgery, to treat various abdominal conditions. At Stockport NHS Foundation Trust he was the lead Upper GI Surgeon where he led the development of advanced keyhole surgery for treating complex oesophageal and stomach cancers.


In his practice, Apple Surgical Clinic based at The Alexandra Hospital in Cheadle, the abiding ethos remains as in his NHS practice, care and compassion underpinned by experience. Our team treats a wide range of conditions and achieve the best possible outcomes for patients including treatment for Gallstones, inguinal hernia and other abdominal hernias, acid reflux and Hiatus Hernia, Haemorrhoids, investigations and management of abdominal complaints including using endoscopy techniques. Mr Agwunobi receives referrals from local GPs, other consultant colleagues, and self-referrals from private paying or insured patients. Mr Agwunobi has treated and operated on thousands of patients in the last 20 years, in addition to holding countless consultations and follow-up appointments.


His expertise and considerable experience enable him to train and mentor surgeons of the future. He is also actively involved in educational events for other healthcare professionals. Today, Mr Agwunobi and the Apple Surgical Clinic continue to focus on improving the patient experience while providing safe and compassionate care.
